Become a Court-Appointed Special Advocate
You don't need to be a social worker or an attorney to volunteer as a CASA -- you just need a heart for children and a passionate belief that every child deserves a safe, permanent, and nurturing home where they can thrive!
We offer volunteer training classes at least three times a year. Training is 30 hours of classroom instruction on the court process and court report writing, child abuse and neglect, permanency planning, substance abuse and mental illness, domestic violence, poverty, working with families and children, and the education system. Training is very interactive, and you will be completing a court report for a mock case to which you are assigned during the class.
To become a CASA you must:
- Be 18 years or older
- Complete an application including criminal and child abuse background checks
- Be able to commit at least one year to the program
- Complete pre-service training.
CASA training is held at least three times a year, starting in February, June, and September. Each training is nine sessions. We also have options for independent study training. Please contact the office if you are interested in becoming a volunteer. You may download our application to print and complete. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the application file. Our next training class will begin on Monday, June 16th from 6-9 p.m. at 621 Humboldt and will continue for four Monday nights. Please contact our office for more information.
